Local cricket lovers are in for an exciting final in the Louis Trichardt Cricket Club’s T20 league when Limpopo Dairy comes up against the Killers on Saturday, 9 November, at 14:00 at the Louis Trichardt Oval.
Limpopo qualified for the final after beating RCI on Sunday, 3 November. Limpopo batted first, putting up a score of 155 runs for the loss of five wickets in their allotted 20 overs. The top scorer for the team was Jaun Phillips, who played a well-constructed half century, scoring 53 runs off 41 balls, with two fours and six sixes. Other double-figure contributions came from teammates Leon Furstenburg (33 runs), Morné Olwage (26 runs), and Ifran Patel (14 runs).
The pick of the bowlers for RCI was Ifran Bhana, who took two wickets for 11 runs in his four overs, achieving an impressive economy rate of 2.75. Teammate Jabir Abhuji also took two wickets but was far more expensive in his four overs, conceding 41 runs. Shivam Patel (junior) took one wicket.
Despite losing both their openers quickly, RCI put up a gallant fight, with batsman Ikram Patel starring by scoring 79 runs off 57 balls, including nine fours and three sixes. Other double-figure contributions came from teammates Jabir Abhuji (18 runs), Irfan Bhana (21 runs), and Usman Gani Patel (14 runs). However, this was not enough for victory, as RCI only managed to reach 144 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their 20 overs, giving Limpopo a six-run victory.
For Limpopo, bowler Irfan Patel took two wickets for 27 runs in his four overs, while teammates Iqram Patel, Gerhardus Fourie, and Morné Olwage each took one wicket.
Spectators are welcome to attend Saturday’s final. A cash bar and snack will be available. No own cooler boxes are allowed.

Andries joined the Zoutpansberger and Limpopo Mirror in April 1993 as a darkroom assistant. Within a couple of months he moved over to the production side of the newspaper and eventually doubled as a reporter. In 1995 he left the newspaper group and travelled overseas for a couple of months. In 1996, Andries rejoined the Zoutpansberger as a reporter. In August 2002, he was appointed as News Editor of the Zoutpansberger, a position he holds until today.
