Louis Trichardt Paralympic medallist Sheryl James became the first recipient of the Limpopo Sports Confederation's Sportswoman of the Year with Disability Award the past weekend.

The inaugural Limpopo Sports Confederation's Women in Sport Awards took place at The Ranch Resort outside Polokwane on Saturday, 21 October.

“I first of all want to thank my Father in heaven for making my journey possible. To the Limpopo Sports Confederation, thank you for the valuable support that you have given to Parasport in our province. After listening to feedback from the Limpopo Sport Confederation Summit that was held this morning, I am excited and looking forward to seeing even more advances in the development of  athletes in Limpopo," said James upon receiving the award.

James said she was also deeply appreciative of Laurium Capital's investment in her journey and of the support she was receiving from the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC). She also thanked the sponsors who had made the historic inaugural awards for women possible.
