Annual SPCA golf day once again draws full field

The SPCA hosted their ninth annual golf day on Saturday, 18 May, which was once again well supported with a full field of players.

“We are so incredibly humbled and thankful to each person who contributed in any way to help make our golf day such a huge success and one to look forward to on the yearly calendar. Without the amazing support of our community, it would not have been possible,” said Alicia Thomas of the local SPCA.

The competition was decided in a four-ball format, with the team consisting of Johan Breytenbach, Mauritz Senekal, Charles Schlesinger and Beukes Haasbroek clinching victory with a score of 114 points on a count-out. In second place, also with 114 points, was the Musina four-ball team consisting of Eddie Liebert, Lindie Liebert, Johan Botha and Martin Claasen. In third place, again with 114 points on a count-out, was the local four-ball team of Pee-Jay Greyling, Christiaan Mocke, Hanco Kok and Dion Svoboda.

Thomas and the local SPCA team thanked all who made the day possible. The total list of sponsors and people includes the Soutpansberg Golf Club (Inus Steyn, Lizelle Pretorius and Francois Labuschagne), the golfers, the SPCA committee, all the volunteers, Meowthful, Rhodes, All Power (Stihl), Legacy Animal Clinic, Fur-Real Accessories, Anne Britz, Smart Fitness, Anri Fourie, Adri and Ferdi Viviers, NTT Isuzu, the Boer Roer, KFC, ZC Pretorius Brokers, Auto Pedigree, Lesley and Stephan Gaigher, CFOA Mobility, Greg and Hazel Leach, Marcia Potgieter, Elize and Cobus van der Goot, PE Thomas Farming, Bruzel and Ludwich de Klerk, Audio Sat, Ladies Circle 4, BB Mount Fuji, Leadwood Leather, Pretesh Patel (Surat), Schlieben Boerdery (Proteas), Brian du Plooy (Montimart) and the Zoutpansberger.

“We apologise if we might have left anyone out; there are just so many that we needed to thank,” said Thomas.

Andries joined the Zoutpansberger and Limpopo Mirror in April 1993 as a darkroom assistant. Within a couple of months he moved over to the production side of the newspaper and eventually doubled as a reporter. In 1995 he left the newspaper group and travelled overseas for a couple of months. In 1996, Andries rejoined the Zoutpansberger as a reporter. In August 2002, he was appointed as News Editor of the Zoutpansberger, a position he holds until today.
