Powafix through to finals

Date: 31 May 2017 By: Anton van Zyl

The Powafix team literally powered their way to the finals on Sunday when they demolished the Strikers team. They will now come up against the Vikings this coming Sunday in the final of the Louis Trichardt Cricket Club’s local league.

Powafix batted first on a slightly damp pitch, but this did not seem to bother the batsmen at all. Imran Batia (29 off 19 balls) and Amir Bux (54 off 39 balls) opened the scoring and both were in destructive form. When they departed, Juan Phillips (12 off 12), Louis van Jaarsveld (21 off 21) and Terrance Pienaar (15 not out off 9) took the score to 167/6 in 20 overs. Ettienne van Heerden was Strikers’ most successful bowler, taking 2/23 in his four overs.

Etienne Hendriks (12 off 16) and Ettienne van Heerden (12 off 19) got Strikers’ innings off to a reasonable start, but thereafter wickets fells in quick succession. FC Phillipson added 14 not out off 12 balls, but with the score on 89 he witnessed the last wicket falling. The top-scorer was extras, with no fewer than 23 wides being bowled.

For Powafix, Amir Bux did most of the damage with the ball, taking 3/17 in four overs. Ikram Kamboli also made a useful contribution with 2/14 in three overs.
