Date: 05 July 2018 By: Tshifhiwa Mukwevho

The resolute and stern approach by the police in Limpopo to reduce and fight crime through an ongoing joint effort, Operation Fiela II, continues to bear fruit.

The SAPS made many breakthroughs in different parts of the province over the weekend, when  328 suspects aged between 18 and 45 were arrested and charged with various crimes. In the Thohoyandou Cluster, rangers from the Kruger National Park received a tip-off from members of the community about five suspicious-looking men who entered the park in the early hours of the morning of 2 July. Afterwards, a gunshot was heard in the park.

“The police and the rangers swiftly reacted and spotted the tracks of the suspects that led them to Bende Mutale village,” the police's provincial spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe, said. “On their arrival, two male suspects aged 22 and 27 were found in possession of a nyala carcass and a KNP uniform concealed inside school bags.”

They were arrested on the spot and, at the time of our going to press, they were still to appear in the Musina Magistrate's Court.

Meanwhile, a 41-year-old suspect was arrested after he was found in possession of an R1 rifle and ammunition at Muswodi Tshisimani village. This successful arrest was made during Operation Seize fire, which was jointly conducted by members of the Thohoyandou Crime Intelligence unit and detectives. The suspect is facing a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm.

The police's provincial commissioner, Lt-Gen Nneke Ledwaba, applauded the police officers from the various units, stations and clusters for their hard work and dedication in dealing with crime.
