Singer, songwriter and poet Clement “Clemour” Ngobeni is a contestant on M-Net's Music competition, The Voice South Africa.

The 24-year-old Clemour secured his spot in the competition three weeks ago during the blind auditions.

“I entered The Voice SA after hearing the buzz on social media about it,” said Clemour. “My challenge at The Voice SA was basically fear of the coaches' not turning their chairs during my blind audition.”

Clemour will be on a team led by Kahn Morbee of the Parlotones for the whole season of the competition.

One of the judges and Clemour's coach on The Voice SA, Kahn described Clemour as a humble person with incredible musical talent and amazing work ethic. “He's got such a rich, textured voice, a lot of soul and dynamics,” said Kahn. “It is almost like I am listening to a classic soul singer from a bygone era; his voice has maturity beyond his actual age."

Clemour indicated that he was hoping to get great mentorship from Kahn as his type of music with the Parlotones was poetic and soulful.

“With all his expertise, I know Morbee will sharpen my art, guide me and bring out the best in me. I am definitely TeamKahn all the way to the finish line,” said Clemour.

A resident of Waterval Section A, Clemour is currently residing in Midrand in Gauteng. He grew up in a musical family, where his grandfather was a singer and both his parents were choir conductors. Clemour said that he discovered his singing talent when he was only nine year old.

“When we were kids, my mom would gather us together outside the house and teach us songs and the stars would be our audience," he remembered. "Little did I know that she was building musical strength in us."

The Voice SA is on M-Net, DStv channel 101, at 17:30 on Sundays.
