Nine dangerous prisoners escape

RAVELE - Nine dangerous prisoners escaped from the Tshilwavhusiku police cells last week.

According to a spokesperson for the police, the incident took place last Thursday at about midnight.

It is stated that the prisoners cut the burglar bars and roof and used their blankets as rope to escape from the cell. The police indicated that the prisoners who escaped are regarded as dangerous.

People who notice them are requested to report to the police. The police also warn people who accommodate them, that they will be arrested.

When going to press three of the escapees had been re-arrested - Tshifhiwa Ramapala (18) of Magau Village who was arrested for theft, Johannes Tshifularo (19) of Madombidzha, who was arrested for armed robbery, and Thomas Khorommbi (21) of Ramatsha Village, who was arrested of murder. Khorommbi was arrested for the murder of Andy Makholo of Ravele, on September 14, 2003. The six who are still at large, are Elvis Malange (20), Simon Mudau (20) and Mpho Matambule (21) of Madombidzhay, Leonard Sadiki (22), Booi Ralufhe (22) and David Muhanelwa (21) of Madodonga. According to the police, Malange, Mudau and Matambule were arrested for possession of an unlicensed fire-arm, rape and robbery respectively.

In the meantime, it was announced by the police that they had arrested two 18-year-old women from Madombidzha in connection with the escape of the men. They allegedly supplied the prisoners with a loaf of bread with a saw blade inside. They appeared in the Tshilwavhusiku Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, and their case was postponed to October 14.
