The horrible accident on the N1 south on 30 October claimed the lives of three people and left three more people injured.

Concern over increase in vehicle accidents

With the recent spate of crashes on the region’s roads, motorists are reminded anew to be extremely careful while driving on the roads, ahead of the coming festive season.

On Friday, 30 October, three people were killed in a vehicle accident along the N1 south, just outside of Louis Trichardt. Two more people were seriously injured and one slightly injured in the same accident. According to information supplied by the police, the driver of a Nissan sedan made an illegal U-turn, causing a horrible crash with a bakkie that was driving in a southerly direction on the N1.

Over the past weekend, on Friday (6th), three people were also injured when the driver of a vehicle lost control and ploughed into the bushes near the Bluegumspoort turn-off on the N1 north.

Local manager of the Makhado Fire Station Mr Jack Ramalotso said this week that he was concerned that there were too many accidents ahead of the usually busy festive season. He cautioned motorists to be extra vigilant, especially when driving at night.

It is also of vital importance to drive with a vehicle that is 100% roadworthy. A good practice is to have your vehicle checked every three months or at least before going on a long journey.

In case of an accident, the fire station can be contacted at 015 516 0554/0551/5588.
