Date: 14 June 2002 By:

THOHOYANDOU – The finals of the Local Search for Talent Competition were held at the Tusk Venda Casino Hotel on Sunday evening. Fabulous prizes were given away to the winners after the ceremony.

According to the Marketing Coordinator of the Tusk Venda Casino Hotel Mrs May Ann de Villiers, they have been running the competition for the past month.

Seven groups managed to reach the final stage of the competition. The high standard of the competition made it difficult for the judges to agree on one winner. Three groups, Juandri Coetzee and the Youngsters, Black Genius Crew and Moso Moso had all convinced the judges that they were winners.

Juandri Coetzee, a Grade 8 pupil at the Elboruch Academy took home an amount of R1000 in cash. The cash prize was accompanied by the recording contract to the value of R3 500. The same prizes were given to the Black Genius Crew.

Although Moso Moso also counted among the trio who obtained the first position, he was given a cash prize of R1000 alone. According to the organisers, Moso Moso was excluded from the recording contract, simply because he is not a singer but a dancer.

Another dancer, Tshitetete obtained the second position. His prize was a free weekend hotel accommodation for two people including breakfast and a cash prize of R200. TC Tshiswaise won a midweek free accommodation including breakfast and a cash prize of R100.

Majaivane took the fourth position. His prizes include an A la Carte dinner for two, cash prize of R100 and a R50 double up voucher. The competition was sponsored by the Tusk Venda Casino Hotel, Tuskers Restaurant and the FKR Recording Studio.
