Thengwe Secondary is still delivering the goods

THENGWE – It seems good things will never stop coming from Thengwe Secondary School.

Dubbed best rural school because of its reputation for producing good matric results since it was established four decades ago, Thengwe also has a tendency of outshining other schools, both in the province and nationally, in other fields that are not academically related.

Recently two of its pupils, Pfunzo Rammbuda (16) of Tshilamba Location, and Livhuwani Rasalanavho (17) made their school proud by winning national competitions.

Rammbuda took position number one in the National Heritage Day Celebration competition, held in Cape Town from September 19-26.

Rammbuda presented a historical background about the Thengwe area and the origin of the people, in English, his favourite subject.

He collected information on the Royal family, where he beat all other pupils from regional to national level. He won himself a R600 book voucher and another R6 000 book voucher for his school, Thengwe.

"This is the beginning of bigger things to come. I was a little bit scared to compete against other pupils from urban areas like Sandton and Cape Town, but I knew it was my brain that mattered," said Rammbuda, who wants to study Electrical Engineering when he passes matric.

On the other hand, Rasalanavho from Khubvi village, also doing grade 11, made her school proud when she was crowned second princess during the Mr and Ms Africa pageant, held in Mmabatho from September 29 to October 05. She competed against 24 contestants. She won a medal, a trophy and hampers. Rasalanavho qualified to participate in the national competition after reaching the regional level. She was among the 15 contestants from the province. The total number of those who competed at national level was 150.

Rasalanavho is a former Miss Thengwe 2001, Miss Mutale District Arts and Culture 2001, Miss Region 3 Arts and Culture 2002, and Miss Summer 2001. She says she want to participate in other major contests, like Miss Teen South Africa, and the same contest, Miss Africa
