Praise for Musina’s financial management

The office of the auditor general (AG) is pleased with the way in which Musina Local Municipality handled its finances in the 2015/16 financial year as per the set regulatory guidelines and procedures.

The office attested to this during the recent public hearing of the Municipal Public Account Committee (MPAC) held in the council chamber of the Musina Municipality.

The MPAC is the committee of the municipal council that ensures that the finances of the municipality are handled well in terms of the set guidelines. Although the municipal chamber was filled to capacity, mainly by members of the public and stakeholders, only the municipal council, municipal manager and Mr Gert Odendaal from the AG's office took part in the deliberations.

“The office of the AG is pleased to know that Musina Local Municipality has improved when it comes financial management. This is a great achievement,” Odendaal said.

While accounting to the public and MPAC, the municipal manager, Mr Johnson Matshivha, acknowledged that the municipality was working hard to ensure that service delivery issues were prioritised. “Despite the fact that we have limited resources and financial muscles, we are doing our best to achieve our set targets every year. We have the interests of our people at heart and we are enthused to do more,” Matshivha said.

Echoing equal sentiments was the chairperson of the MPAC in Musina Municipality, Cllr Siyaphi Shirilele, who said that it pleased her to know that the municipal executives continued to be very responsible when it came to issues of financial management. "This clearly indicates that the council members are on the right track to ensure good governance and responsible financial management."
