Isability hosts yet another very successful classification day

The Isability Sports Club once again hosted a very successful classification and practice day for para-athletes at Laerskool Louis Trichardt on Saturday, 10 June, with 72 people attending; more than half of them were new athletes who have never been classified before.

The athletes hailed from Tzaneen, Polokwane, Thohoyandou, Giyani, Nzhelele, Musina, Elim and Louis Trichardt. “Our two ASA level 1 coaches (Vhumbani Masakona and Sheryl James) were unable to attend the event, so we were very excited to see some of our national medallists coaching and imparting skills to the newbies. These aspiring coaches are Vhutu Nemutandani, Lucas Mapiteke and Corrie Dercksen. There were also a number of volunteers who pitched up to assist - very heart-warming,” said the Isability Sports Club’s Sandy James.

James said the club was deeply grateful to Laerskool Louis Trichardt for being so generous with their facilities. “I was asked by a gentleman from Radio FM the other day: ‘What else, apart from financial assistance, does your organisation need?’ My reply - typical teacher - was so long-winded!  It was only later in the day when the right words came to mind,” said James.

Regarding the above, James said caring did not cost anything but was even more valuable than money.  “And so - what other help do we need that is not financial? The answer: Being aware and taking the time to care. Because caring has a consequence - it leads to one taking time out to volunteer or to be there for a disabled person. It does not have a monetary value attached to it necessarily. In fact - it is priceless - it is unaffordable - but we all have the capacity to care and make time for others,” said James.
