Prayers against road accidents

Date: 17 November 2017 By:

The mayor of Musina, Cllr Mihloti Muhlope, is calling upon churches, stakeholders and community members to a ceremony to pray against road accidents this festive season.

The event takes place on Wednesday, 22 November.

Muhlope said a high number of fatal accidents claiming lives was reported in the Musina municipal area each year. “Although we are working hard with our law-enforcement agencies to lower the number of fatal accidents, we feel it is now time to seek spiritual intervention from God,” she added.

She quoted the Bible, which “says we must put everything before God and He will answer our prayers.” She urged every road user to be more cautious when using the roads this festive season. “We are tired of avoidable deaths on our roads. Our traffic officers will go out in full force to make sure that everyone is obeying the rules of the road. Furthermore, it is incumbent upon all of us to make sure that we obey the rules of the road at all times.”

She said the municipality was working with local clerics and community stakeholders to organize the event. “We already had preparatory meetings and urge all community members to join us as we make a plea to God to save lives during this festive season.”

All participants are urged to converge at the municipal offices at 08:00 on 22 November. “We will have a short prayer at the municipal offices before we proceed to pray at the N1 South's high-accident curve between the Sasol Garage and the Toll Gate. This is the spot where we have lost a lot of people, including the late Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana soccer star, Lesley Manyathela. We strongly believe that God will hear our prayers and save many lives this festive season.”
