New coat of arms for Makhado

Date: 26 September 2003 By:

MAKHADO (LOUIS TRICHARDT) – The new Makhado Municipal coat of arms was officially unveiled on Saturday, September 20. At the same time, a quarterly newsletter and municipal website was also launched.

The MEC for Local Government and Housing, Mr Joe Maswanganye, took part in the launch. He said the website will not only create more opportunities for investment, but will also improve communication between the municipality and it's different communities.

"This is another significant step by this municipality to market itself electronically to other potential investors. The newsletter will also contribute to improved communication between our people and the municipality. It will create an opportunity for the municipality to report on important developments around Makhado.

"The challenge of the municipalities in this province is in the area of communication. Certain parts of the commercial media, fuelled by the opposition, in the recent past created the impression that there is no delivery at this level of government. This newsletter therefore creates a good opportunity to reflect your achievements."

He announced that the newsletter would circulate widely in order to reach people in all corners of the Municipality. "I am also informed that the next editions will be written in languages that our people understand."

On the Coat of Arms, the MEC said it creates a corporate identity for the municipality and will be part of a marketing package in its interaction with other organisations and the business sector.
