In January 2010, KCET invited applications for bursaries from prospective students. Four students were identified for the awarding of bursaries to the value of R50 000. Two of the students received bursaries to study at the University of Venda, and the other two received bursaries to study at Vhembe FET College.

Last Saturday evening, the bursaries were awarded during an event at the Khoroni Hotel Casino Convention Resort Pool Deck. The recipients, together with their parents, a headmaster of one of the schools and clients of the Hotel were invited to take part in the function.

The general manager of Khoroni Hotel Casino Convention Resort, Mr Albert Eksteen, emphasized that the company had made a commitment to meet the social, educational and emotional needs of the surrounding community by awarding bursaries to deserving students through Khoroni Community Educational Trust (KCET) and uplifting the surrounding communities through the company’s community social investment projects.

The principal of Nwaridi Secondary School, Mr GS Mashau, expressed his gratitude and praised the company for assisting in reducing the plight of the poor by offering bursaries. He further encouraged the company to continue honouring its commitment to provide poor students with financial assistance.

The bursaries are renewable annually. In the third quarter of the year, KCET will be inviting Grade 12 learners to apply for bursaries for 2011.
