Man charged with indecent assault

The incident relating to the case took place at the Ornoko B settlement on Monday afternoon, at about 14:30. According to the spokesperson of the police in the Mopani area, Insp. Hasani Mabaso, the complainant, a 16-year-old girl, was on her way home from the nearby rivulet when the incident took place.

Along the way, she met the suspect who was going in the opposite direction. The statement indicates that the suspect requested the complainant to stop for a while, saying he wanted to ask her something. Instead of asking her anything as requested, the suspect allegedly started proposing sex to the complainant. The complainant refused and the suspect went on trying to persuade her.

During the discussion, the statement indicates, the suspect allegedly started to touch the complainant's breasts and genitals. Realising that the suspect would eventually rape her, the complainant escaped and ran away.

At that stage she was screaming for help. The people who were nearby heard her cries and went to the scene. She told them about the incident and the mob chased the suspect until they arrested him a distance away. He appeared in the Mhala Magistrate's Court on Wednesday and the case was postponed to a later date.
