Insp Nkanukeni Raedani of the Thohoyandou Police confirmed the incident. “We have registered a case of reckless and negligent driving at Thohoyandou SAPS, following the incident.”
Raedani said the car, which was bought on Sunday, was travelling on the Tusk Venda Casino Hotel-Univen Road when the driver lost control. “An 18-year old woman was driving alone when she lost control and crashed into the house. We understand there was somebody in the house, who luckily survived the incident.”
Raedani added that the woman was taken to hospital for treatment although she did not have visible physical injuries.
“She was taken to Tshilidzini Hospital where she was treated and released the same day...”
The man who was inside the house at the time of the incident, Mpikiseni Ndou, who started renting the room three weeks ago, said he was preparing himself for work when the incident happened. “It was at about 14:00 while I was taking a bath as I was due for work at Tusk Venda Casino Hotel at 15:00. Like a bolt of thunder, I had a big bang and the car was in the room, less than a metre from where I was bathing. It all happened so fast that I was confused and did not know what to do. The room was full of cement debris and I did not even know how I picked up my trousers and escaped through the window…”
Ndou, from Shakadza village, said the car has damaged his kitchen utensils, wardrobe and bed.
“Although my property is damaged, I thank God because I’m still alive. My main problem is that I don’t know where I will go after I knock off from work this evening,” said Ndou, when concluding our interview.
