Twenty years in jail for killing brother

MALAMULELE – A resident of Shigalo Village, Mzamani Thomas Mabasa (42), will spend the next twenty years in jail. He was found guilty of murdering his brother. The case was finalised in the Malamulele Regional Court on Tuesday.

The incident to which the case is related took place at the Shigalo village near Malamulele, during the night of May 25 last year. The court heard that, during the night of the incident the deceased, Phineas Mabaso (37) was walking in the street. He met the accused, who was going in the opposite direction. After a short discussion they decided to go to the accused's home.

The court further heard that an argument ensued between the two along the way. The cause of the argument could not be established. During the argument, the court heard, the accused produced a panga and stabbed the deceased several times in the throat.

The deceased fell down, bleeding profusely. He was later taken to the local hospital, where he was certified dead on arrival. The accused was arrested two days after the incident. He appeared in the magistrate's court several times before the case was referred to the regional courtl, where it was finalised on Tuesday.
