A real gentleman has passed away

Date: 15 January 2017 By: Isabel Venter

It was with a heavy heart that family and friends had to bid farewell to Willie van Zyl. He suffered from both Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease and sadly lost the battle when he passed away on Friday, 6 January at the age of 70.

His family will remember him for the real gentleman that he was, always full of witty remarks about his condition.

Willie and his wife Margaret retired in Louis Trichardt during January 2011, enjoying the beautiful surroundings. He was an avid motor-racing enthusiast and even took part in racing in his younger days. He had a passion for Ferrari.

Willie leaves behind his wife, his son Brendon and four grandchildren.

The family expressed their heartfelt gratitude towards the local community, their extended circle of friends and family for all their love and support given during their time of grief. They also had a special word of thanks for Dr Casper Venter and all the doctors and staff of the Zoutpansberg Private Hospital for the great care they had given Will in his last days.

A memorial service will be held for Willie on Monday, 16 January, at the Emmanuel Church in Louis Trichardt at 11:00.
