Licensing department under spotlight

AfriForum’s Louis Trichardt branch has decided to intervene at the Makhado Municipality’s licensing offices.

They have described the current situation at the licensing department as dysfunctional and chaotic, after receiving several complaints from the community regarding poor service delivery. “We have decided to take action on behalf of residents, with a view to seeing an overhaul of what seems to be a hopelessly dysfunctional department,” said Louis Trichardt’s AfriForum chairperson, Mr Wally Schultz.

Schultz explained that local motor dealers in particular are at their wits end, as the long delays in getting vehicles registered hampers their service to paying clients.  “I am in the process of collecting as many statements from the public as possible in order to assess the full extent of the problem, before approaching the Makhado Municipality for an urgent meeting to remedy what is clearly an urgent matter. I appeal to residents who have had bad experiences to make urgent contact with me,” said Schultz.

According to Schultz, he is aware of tales of customers who had to wait endlessly, often having to come back day after day before abandoning their quest for help, and driving to neighbouring towns.

“I have many reports of rude, incompetent staff who have reduced several complainants to helpless tears,” said Schultz. “This state of affairs is simply unacceptable. This community does not have to accept this behaviour or treatment from civil servants and AfriForum will take this matter up with the very highest authority, if necessary,” said Schultz.

Members of the community who need AfriForum’s help can contact Schultz at Tel 081 722 0805 or by writing him an email at [email protected].
