Goldwell SA say their Color Zoom Challenge 2015 “has delivered remarkable finalists this year”. Pictured are the creations of the country's top five styles with the theme Traditional Rebels (in the category for hairstylists with more than five years experience). The creation of  Connie de Sousa of Louis Trichardt can be seen on the left (large photo). The other four finalists are (from top to bottom) Donne Human-Christof of Durban, Heidi van der Berg of Pretoria (last year's global silver medallist), Lorinda Janse van Rensburg of Oudtshoorn and Yvette Whatt of Alberton. Photos supplied.

Connie again a finalist

Date: 02 July 2015 By: Linda van der Westhuizen

Louis Trichardt hairstylist Connie de Sousa finds herself once again among the top five Goldwell trendsetters in South Africa.

Connie’s interpretation of Traditional Rebels, the theme for this year’s Goldwell Color Zoom 2015 challenge, won her a place among the top five finalists. The South African winner will represent her country at the gala event in Las Vegas in October this year.

Goldwell’s instructions for the Traditional Rebels theme were quite interesting: “Start with an inspiration, then deconstruct it. Preserve the essence, mix in some cultural references and then reconstruct it to create something new. It is the hottest trend in fashion: taking elements from the past and bringing it to the future with a completely new twist…” The judges definitely liked the blue-hair look that Connie created for her model, Jackie O'Callaghan from Musina. Maja Lee Photography from Louis Trichardt was responsible for the photography.

Connie competed in the global creative colourist category for hair stylists with more than five years experience. Last year, Connie was awarded a bronze medal after ending in the top five in South Africa and in 2013 Connie obtained a silver medal. In 2004, Connie represented South Africa in Goldwell’s global event that was hosted in Berlin. She has also ended in the top five in the country in 2008 and 2009.

“Entering the Goldwell Color Zoom competition keeps our job interesting. I have entered every year since the start of the competition. I don’t want to miss out,” said Connie this week. Connie certainly didn’t miss out on the fun of creating the Traditional Rebels hairstyle. Chances are that Connie may get to recreate the style at the live hands-on global finale, if she scoops up gold in South Africa.

This year, Connie is again competing against Heidi van der Berg of Pretoria, who got a silver medal at the global event in Berlin last year, though Connie does have a good feeling about her entry this year. The other three finalists are from Durban, Alberton and Oudtshoorn. Goldwell SA say on their Facebook page that the Color Zoom Challenge “has delivered remarkable finalists this year”.
