Another suspect arrested in court

Date: 04 September 2014 By: Isabel Venter

Another suspect was arrested in the case of a rhino poaching incident that took place in the Mapungubwe National Park.

This follows the arrest of four other men on 15 August for the same crime.

The four men, Job Basi Tlou from Mahlanga in Mpumalanga, Percy Manengena from Alldays, and Johannes Podile and Lebala Sematla, both from the farm Den Staat, were arrested after a rhino poaching at Mapungubwe on 23 July. The fifth suspect, who can only be identified after his bail application, was arrested when he attended the bail hearing of the other four on Tuesday, 26 August.

Following the arrest, the bail proceedings were postponed until 26 September when all five suspects will appear together.

“We are happy with the progress that is being made in this regard. Our environmental crime investigation team, together with the South African Police Services, has worked very hard in bringing these perpetrators to book,” said SANParks acting head of communications Reynold Thakhuli.
