On 1 and 2 May this year, our local Limpopo Crusaders Polocrosse club hosted their annual polocrosse tournament at the well–known Windpomp Fees in Mookgopong.

Over 40 players travelled from various parts of the country to attend this one-of-a-kind event, where participation in a sports competition is combined with a couple of days of fun in the form of various stalls, exhibitions, games, a funfair and live entertainment.

The tournament was also graced by the presence of the president of South African Polocrosse, Mr André Truter, and the president of World Polocrosse, Mr Wessel Strauss.  The partnership of Limpopo Polocrosse with the popular Windpompfees, which attracts over 20 000 feet annually, is enormously important in the development of this fun horse sport within our province.

With the assistance of the following sponsors, who contributed towards the tournament, the organisers were able to run a professional event with great prizes and much enthusiasm from participants and spectators: NTK, Sons of Africa, Madi Tanks, Oasis Water, National Velvet Apiaries and Pollination, Vivo Vleismark, Field & Tractor, Northgate Lodge, Mike’s Kitchen, and Easy Build.

Of special importance this year is the Polocrosse World Cup, which is being hosted in Durban at the Shongweni Polo Arena during the month of July. The South African polocrosse team will be defending its title as world champions at this prestigious event, where eight countries participate, namely the United States of America, Australia, New Zealand, Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Ireland and the United Kingdom.

With the funds raised at the Windpompfees Polocrosse Tournament, Limpopo Crusaders Polocrosse Club was able to make a contribution towards the upcoming World Cup event, which means all the sponsors, and all those who assisted in making the tournament a success, are indirectly involved in the success of the World Cup as well.

So, a big thank you to all the sponsors and all those who assisted the club to host the event.
