Takalani Sesame visits Makhado town

Date: 22 August 2014 By: Isabel Venter

Local toddlers came from far and wide to attend the Sanlam Takalani Sesame Road Show that was hosted in Makhado (Louis Trichardt) over the weekend.

The queues started early, as eager toddlers waited to get their picture taken with Kami and Neno, two Muppets of the Takalani Sesame show. Their picture was taken and printed for free, and while they waited, the children were entertained with various activities. There were jumping castles, jumping ropes, hula hoops and scooters in play areas for the tods to play to their hearts’ content.

Afterwards, there were two live shows where Kami, Neno and Zikwe entertained the toddlers and their parents. Their show was not only entertaining, but also informative - the children learnt from Kami, who is HIV positive, the importance of maintaining your health by means of healthy food and plenty of exercise. Kami and Zikwe also explained to the children how to be penny wise and save their allowance money.

Between the Muppet shows, other singers and dancers also entertained the local crowds. Another exciting line-up was the Sanlam Blown Away competition; a lucky draw competition with a twist. Ticket holders were selected from the crowd to participate in the competition by drawing their numbers from a hat. They had to stand in the Sanlam booth, while fans blew tickets around them, and snatch a prize ticket before their time ran out. One woman managed to win a new refrigerator.

For the parents there were also representatives from the departments of health and education, offering free advice, and Sanlam financial advisers offering financial guidance.
